The Chemo begins

Hello to Family and Friends,
Well it looks like I am finally going to begin the chemotherapy. As most of you know that has been the prescription since my surgery, but for one reason or another it has been delayed until now.
The latest delay had to do with my enrollment in a clinical trial program where I was to receive an additional drug to the standard chemotherapy treatment. Last Wednesday, Nov 14, I showed up at the doctor's office to begin the chemotherapy treatment and because I had volunteered to participate in this clinical trial program they delayed my start until this week. I heard today that I am to begin tomorrow, November 20, at 11 AM. However, I will not be receiving the additional drug as part of the clinical trial. It seems that there has to be two test groups; the one to receive the additional drug and the other to serve as a standard test model. In the "randomization" that everyone is subject to who enrolls in this test program, I was selected to be part of the "standard test model". That means my experiences through the standard chemotherapy will be used as a benchmark to compare with those who receive the standard treatment PLUS the additional drug.
Anyway, I am to begin the standard six-month treatment tomorrow, and while everyone reacts to these drugs differently there are unpleasant side affects to just about everyone. So we ask for your prayers, and will attempt here to keep you informed how I am doing.

To remind you where I am in this, my cancer, known as stage 3, had spread through the colon wall into the lymph nodes, but with no evidence of further spreading. There was no evidence of further contamination in my body. So with the surgery they removed all visible cancer in my body, and in my case the chemotherapy is intended to attack any rogue cancer cells that may remain and prevent any re occurrence. It is a precautionary procedure then designed to increase my chances of not having a re occurrence.
That's all for now.

Walt
